These 2 Things Are What A Con Needs To Steal Your Identity
Posted:Sep 1, 2019 9:21 am

Some good info from an article I read online. The date of birth info is a “thing” here and this is why mine is not given here.

Frank Abagnale, a former con artist famously portrayed Leonardo DiCaprio in the film Catch If You Can, is out with a new book aptly entitled “Scam If You Can: Simple Strategies to Outsmart Today’s Rip-off Artists.” In it, he highlights the tricks today’s scammers and con artists are using to commit .

“If you’re on Facebook, here’s the only things you have to remember — never tell anybody where you were born or your date of birth,” Frank Abagnale told Yahoo Finance. “'s 98% of stealing your identity. I only need to know those two pieces of information.”

In the book, Abagnale outlines five rules of how to protect yourself from today’s scammers:
1. Protect your identity. Tip: Put your guard up as soon as someone says you need to share your personal or information with them right now — stop and verify the person you’re dealing with.

2. Secure your finances. Tip: Do not trust someone who tells you they always beat the market or can guarantee a certain level of returns. An honest and qualified planner cannot guarantee investment results.

3. Preserve your digital presence. Tip: Do not keep all your personal information in the cloud or on one laptop. Keep printouts of important documents in a lockbox or upload files to an external hard drive.

4. Safeguard your home and hearth. Tip: If you do not recognize the calling you, do not pick it up. If you do pick up the call be sure to remain tight lipped as the con caller may be recording the call, and saying nothing usually results in the caller hanging up.

5. Shelter your heart. Tip: Verify the person you are speaking with on a dating app is real. Search online to confirm claims of location, employment, and photos.

One surprising thing Abagnale notes in his book is the uselessness of passwords. He says passwords were originally created to secure individual time spent on computers used multiple people, not to protect personal information or security needs.

“Passwords are for tree-houses ... If you look at ransomware breaches, malware, [breaches] all come from passwords. So I’ve been a big advocator of eliminating passwords” Abagnale said. “I think you’re starting to see more and more companies, retailers, merchants, eliminating the need for passwords. So in the next two or three years, I don’t think we’ll be using passwords”.

Abagnale said scamming and are “4,000 times easier than when I did it 50 years ago because I didn’t have all the technology exists today, the forms of communication exist today.”

Thoughts on August -50

This is sort of a follow-up on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood post. Still haven’t seen “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” but it is on -do list – perhaps when I next connect with some woman here. Anyway . . .

On another site I’m on (the garage/tools site I’ve mentioned a few times) there was a non-tools discussion about August 1969 and Woodstock – the music fest not the lil yellow bird. is what I posted there, with a updates, I figured since I wrote it I would post it here too.

In August ‘69 I was and a month from becoming . I lived on the west side of Los Angeles. Myself and a neighborhood went a month long camp (mid-July mid- August) on Catalina Island. We were “long hairs” and guess is the “fossils” needed a vacation from us . We had not heard about Woodstock at this point.

We were in the older of there and were mischievous at best. thing we did was rekindle an old beach campfire story, told over a few nights to the younger , about a seaweed monster that came out at night from “Bird Rock” which was just off the beach. It supposedly sucked the brains out of and goats. There was a goat skull with a hole through the top to support this BS story. The next night a guys were gonna cover themselves in seaweed, on the other’s shoulders, and appear walk of the water as the story continued. But the next day we were told in no uncertain terms that the story was done.

I/we later found the Tate–LaBianca murders had happened on August 8–9. It was not far from where some of our mates and friends lived up Benedict Canyon. It was just about the thing on the news, even more than Vietnam. All of L.A. was pretty scared and parents had evidently talked the counselors and make sure all was OK.

No word about Woodstock (August –) sometime later. That is the music of early life so I would have loved have been there.

Finding A Hook Up And A Match

WARNING: This is NOT safe sex. But it my explain an number of things that happen on sex sites.

WOODBURY, N.J. – A New Jersey woman is accused of torching a man's house after he invited her over for late-night sex, then fell asleep and did not hear her at his door.

Taija Russell, 29, was arrested Tuesday in connection with a fire that destroyed a home earlier this month, said Woodbury police. Police accuse Russell of sending a series of angry texts to the slumbering resident, then buying lighter fluid, matches and a lighter at a nearby gas station around 4 a.m. on Aug. 4. She's accused of setting a fire outside the sole doorway to the man's home, then fleeing as the flames spread, according to a probable cause statement for her arrest.

The victim, whose name has not been released, awoke around 4:30 a.m. to find flames blocking the exit from his smoke-filled residence. He escaped by physically removing a window frame and climbing through the opening, police said. The man, described as "covered head to toe in soot and ash" and wearing only a T-shirt, then ran around two-tenths of a mile to Woodbury's police station. He "frantically" announced that his residence was burning, then ran back to his home, says the probable cause statement. The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and first- and second-degree burns, according to police.

Firefighters from Woodbury and surrounding towns responded to the blaze, saving the man's dog. "The residence and its contents were completely destroyed," says the probable cause statement, which notes the fire was determined to be arson.

Police then learned of texts sent by Russell to the victim, which included "I see you wanna die" and "You wasted my money to come out here." The victim's phone also showed eight missed calls, according to the probable cause statement.

The man told police he'd invited Russell to his home "and stated that she was a 'side chick' whom he had been having a sexual relationship with," it adds.

Video surveillance showed the woman outside the man's house "just prior to the fire" and making a purchase at a Conoco station on Mantua Pike, police said.

Russell is being held on charges of attempted murder, aggravated arson, endangering and criminal mischief.

The incident marked the second time this year a woman was accused of setting fire to a man's home in Woodbury. A city woman, 33-year-old Tasia Young, was charged with aggravated arson and other crimes in April.

According to police, Young confessed she engaged in a threesome at her boyfriend's duplex, then became angry when he sent her home and the other woman stayed.
